Nottingham: Parish celebrates centenary with flower show

The newly-elected Lord Mayor of Leicester, Councillor George Gore, was greeted by the Catholic community, the children's council of Granby primary school and thousands of flowers at St Edward the Confessor Catholic Church in Aylestone on Thursday.
This celebration was part of St Edward's 100 Years of Faith and continued on Friday and Saturday.
Organised by Mrs Julie LaMenza, the festival focused in on the Holy Spirit in our life. Special place was given to the flag of the Ukraine at the foot of the altar where the flags of the nations were laid out.
A burning bush garlanded with flowers to which people might attach their prayers was amongst many arrangements. Two willow sculpture angels welcomed visitors to the newly restored Mary garden. The day closed yesterday with a short prayer service. Profits will go toward CAFOD's Ukraine appeal.
St Edward the Confessor Church is based at 633 Aylestone Road, Aylestone, Leicester, LE2 8TF
