Merseyside: Annual Pilgrimage in honour of Bl Dominic Barberi
The Annual Pilgrimage in honour of Blessed Dominic Barberi CP takes place on Monday 29 August, at St Anne & Bl Dominic's Church, Sutton, St Helens WA9 3ZD, where he is buried. The church is also the shrine of two more Passionist Blesseds: Elizabeth Prout and Ignatius Spencer.
Blessed Dominic served in the Archdiocese of Birmingham for seven years from 1842-49. Based at Aston Hall in Staffordshire, he celebrated Mass, preached Missions, heard confessions, and received many people into the Catholic Church, the most famous being St John Henry Newman in October 1845.
Bl Dominic had a great reputation for sanctity and holiness of life. He is also remembered for his love for the poor, and those in need of prayer and help.
Mass will be at 12 noon. The chief celebrant will be Fr Jim Sweeney, CP. There will be refreshments afterwards in the Parish Centre.
