London: Call for names - Service for those who have died homeless in past year
A Service of Commemoration for those who have died homeless in the last year - 'Coming Home' - will take place at St Martin in the Fields, during Remembrance Week, on Thursday, 10 November from 11am -1pm.
We will remember those who have died on the streets, in hostels and shelters, as well as those who managed to move on to more settled lives but who still relied on homelessness services. We also remember colleagues, staff or volunteers who have died in the past year in remembrance and thanksgiving for their service and support alongside people experiencing homelessness.
Names
The first gesture of dignity in life is being given a name at birth and this is absent when people die homeless and in anonymity. This is why we read out the names at this annual commemoration. Please register the names of persons you wish to be read out during the service by clicking on this link… https://forms.office.com/r/CZK06wC5CL
These should be people known to have died in the Greater London area since 5th November 2021.
The deadline for submitting names is 4th November at 9am. Please email info@housingjustice.org.uk with any questions or issues you may have.
All are welcome
Gavin Bryars and his ensemble will be performing, along with the Choir With No Name and Streetwise Opera who are mainstay performers at the service every year.

The Bureau ofInvestigative Journalism and the Museum of Homelessness - https://museumofhomelessness.org/dying-homeless-project/. The Bureau of Investigative Journalism Dying Homeless project ran from October 2017 - March 2019. This important work from the Bureau has been explored at the All Party Parliamentary Group on Homelessness and has prompted the Office for National Statistics to collect data on the deaths of homeless people. However this is not the full story as to how and why people have died. Since early April 2019, Museum of Homelessness has continued to tell these stories, mark people's lives and uncover lessons that could be learnt to prevent more deaths in the future.
