London: Concert for displaced Ukrainians in UK

The London Chorus and Ealing Symphony Orchestra, with soloists Roderick Williams and Ukrainian soprano Yuliya Trishkeu, are collaborating in a concert supporting the Ukrainian Welcome Centre on Thursday 20th October at 8pm at the Ukrainian Catholic Cathedral in London. All the performers are donating their services, and the Rt Rev Kenneth Nowakowski, Bishop of the Ukrainian Catholic Eparchy of the Holy Family of London is lending the Cathedral, so that all concert proceeds go to the Welcome Centre.

Bishop Kenneth said: "We know that the vast majority of people from Ukraine arriving here are young mothers with young children, whose husbands have remained in Ukraine to defend their homeland.

"The people of England have opened not only their hearts but also their homes to provide a place of safety and shelter. The Ukrainian Welcome Centre's team of staff and volunteers provide information and guidance for recently displaced Ukrainians fleeing harm's way, as well as for their Homes for Ukraine sponsors. We are grateful to all of our benefactors that are making this work possible."

The London Chorus, with the two soloists and orchestra, conducted by Ronald Corp, will be singing Vaughan Williams Dona Nobis Pacem and Fauré In Paradisum. Ealing Symphony Orchestra, conducted by John Gibbons, will also be playing works by Coates, Arnold, Dvorak, Lehar and Mussorgsky.

The Ukrainian Welcome Centre is a partnership initiative between the Ukrainian Catholic Eparchy (Diocese) of the Holy Family of London and the Association of Ukrainians in Great Britain.
