London premier of Vox Holloway's Between the Bars
The film premiere of Between the Bars takes place this Sunday 2nd April, at the Picturehouse Finsbury Park. The doors open at 10.45 am and the film will start at 11.00am
Between the Bars traces the journey of North London choir, Vox Holloway, as its members tackle a new oratorio, The Sun Does Shine, based on the true story of an innocent man who spent 30 years on Death Row in Alabama. The film explores the challenges posed when art tackles complex social issues such as capital punishment, racial injustice and long term imprisonment.
Made in collaboration with the UK Prison Reform Trust and Arts Council England.
This is a free event for members, friends and supporters of Vox Holloway but we invite you to make a donation of as much as you are able and willing to give (suggested amount £7.50 per person, £1 for U18s and unwaged) to cover the cost of the launch and contribute to further work with long-term prisoners in the UK. Working with the national Prison Radio Association, we are developing a series of radio programmes, based on The Sun Does Shine, and involving prisoners and former prisoners, that will be streamed into prisons later this year.
Doors open at 10.45am and we will start promptly at 11am. The screening of the film will be followed by drinks in the Picturehouse Members' Bar from 12pm to 1.30pm. Unfortunately we have to limit the numbers attending this part of the event and tickets to the Member's Bar have already sold out.
