Little Amal visits King's Cross
Little Amal is the 12 foot puppet of a 10 year old Syrian refugee child at the heart of The Walk. Over the last year she has become a global symbol of human rights, especially those of refugees.
Since July 2021, Amal has travelled more than 9,000km and been welcomed by more than a million people on the street, including hundreds of artists and civil society and faith leaders, as well as by tens of millions online. From 29 March to 2 April 2023 Amal has been visiting London and Brighton for a festival of welcome, celebration and friendship. She lead an interfaith celebration in the London Borough of Camden, joined business leaders in the City of London to raise urgently needs funds for displaced children across the world, led a walk of hope across Brighton beach and a Sponsored Walk on London's Hampstead Heath.
On Sunday evening Amal led a parade of lanterns from Chalton Street through Somers Town into Granary Square, King's Cross. There was a choir with music from many Arabic drumming traditions.
As the sun set, lanterns were lit for the Open Iftar where people sat on the ground in front of a table cloth and ended their Ramadan fast for the day, with a special picnic of dates and soft drinks.
