Coventry: School celebrates Coronation with new eco-centre

A Coventry school has celebrated the Coronation of King Charles III by unveiling a new eco-inspired play and education facility.

Ss Peter and Paul Catholic Primary School, part of the Romero Catholic Academy, has named its new outdoor learning environment the 'Coronation Garden' to mark the historic occasion.

The garden, which contains a range of structures including a reading shelter made out of recycled wood, will provide all pupils throughout the school with an area to learn, play and relax - with plenty of opportunities for den building and climbing.

The facility was funded by the Romero Catholic Academy and officially opened by Foundation Director Dean Kavanagh in a ribbon cutting ceremony, with plans to add more to the facility and expand it in the years to come.

Head Boy Boris and Head Girl Britney planted an apple tree within the Coronation Garden and pupils also took part in a litter picking session before being joined by parents and staff for a coronation picnic.

Lorraine Stanton, Executive Principal at Ss Peter and Paul Catholic Primary School, said: "Opening our new outdoor learning environment was a fantastic way to mark the Coronation, bringing staff, pupils and parents together to enjoy a picnic and get hands-on with activities in the garden.

"The garden can be used in a wide variety of ways, allowing pupils to have a relaxing moment or to get creative, and provides a great setting to host classes for all pupils from reception right through to year 6.

"We are extremely grateful to the Romero Academy for funding this project and we are looking forward to seeing our pupils make use of it over the years."
