Benedictine Abbey welcomes day visitors and guests
St Augustine's Abbey, Chilworth is a Roman Catholic Benedictine monastery near Guildford, about an hour from London. We are under one mile south of The Pilgrims' Way/North Downs Way.
Christo omnino nihil praeponant - let them prefer nothing to the love of Christ.
Described by the BBC as a 'Prayer Powerhouse', we are an active community of monastic brothers lovingly living the Rule of St Benedict. We very much welcome and encourage new visitors, pilgrims and guests as well as men thinking of becoming a monk: members of the public are welcome to join us for daily Holy Mass & daily Divine Office, although we don't run a parish.
The Abbey also runs its own shop with books, rosaries and other devotional items made by the monks, honey, candles and creams made from beeswax.
St Augustine's Abbey is at Sample Oak Lane, Chilworth, Guildford, Surrey GU4 8QR
Open for public prayer 365 days a year, Daily Mass is at 9am, Sunday Mass at 10am, Divine Office is prayed seven times daily.
