London: Secretary of State for Education visits St Gregory's Catholic Science College

Today, the Secretary of State for Education, Gillian Keagan, visited St Gregory's Catholic Science College in Brent, northwest London.

St Gregory's is a national Lead Behaviour School that has been recognised by Ofsted as an Outstanding school.

The purpose of her visit was to see, first hand, how schools identified as having Reinforced Autoclaved Aerated Concrete (RAAC) are managing.

During her visit, Gillian Keagan met pupils and complimented them on their excellent behaviour and their ambition to succeed. Pupils' academic success at both A Level and GCSE is amongst the best in the country for non-selective schools. The Secretary of State was also impressed by the pupils' community action to improve their local environment, such as leading community litter picking events and campaigning for improvements to their school buildings.

Gillian Keagan complimented the staff at St Gregory's for maintaining outstanding teaching and pupil behaviour despite the disruption caused by the identification of RAAC in its main school building.

Headteacher, Andrew Prindiville, said: "We are delighted that the DfE and the Secretary of State recognise the hard work and dedication of St Gregory's staff, who continue to ensure outstanding teaching standards are maintained, enabling every pupil at St Gregory's to be the best they can be."
