Three pupils involved with LiveSimply projects at Holy Family school

Pupils and staff from Holy Family Catholic Primary (Blackpool) have been recognised for living simply, sustainably and in solidarity.

Pupils and staff from Holy Family have achieved the LiveSimply Award after taking action to demonstrate they are living simply, sustainably and in solidarity with the world's poorest communities.

Championed by overseas development charity CAFOD, the award was presented to pupils and staff on Tuesday, 17 October. Holy Family implemented a number of exceptional projects that highlighted the importance of caring for people and the planet. Their actions had a positive impact on their school community and also reached out to embrace the local community and our global community too.

Every member of our school was involved in the year-long plan to live simply, sustainably and in solidarity. Highlights include raising over £600 for CAFOD with our six week-long 'BIG WALK' initiative. Each week our families and children dressed up in different ways before walking around our local area. It was a lot of fun. We also sold fairtrade goods in our school council treat shop.

A Year 6 student commented on why they took part in the LiveSimply Award: "Helping people who have less than me and seeing the difference it makes gives me joy in my heart'.

Emma Allonby, Headteacher at Holy Family who led the LiveSimply journey, said: "We are ecstatic to be awarded the Live Simply Award here at Holy Family. It is important that we not only teach about our faith but that we live it also."

CAFOD's LiveSimply assessor, Siobhan Farnell said: "Congratulations to the pupils and staff from Holy Family on achieving the LiveSimply Award. Their actions are wonderful examples of caring for others and our common home."
