New York: Gaza peace campaigners block Manhattan Bridge

More than 1,500 Jewish peace campaigners, together with Palestinians, rabbis, imams, pastors, priests, parents, and elected officials were risking arrest at Manhattan Bridge New York, around 5pm local time (1pm London time) on Sunday as they held up traffic in a demonstration calling for a ceasefire In Gaza.
A statement on Twitter from Jewish Voices for Peace said: "We represent the majority of people in the US. 66% of Americans and 80% of Democrats want the bombing of Gaza to stop."
Minutes later another message stated: 'Organizers just announced that there are literally not enough cops to arrest us all! Enormous cheers from the crowd who responded "we're not leaving!"'
This event was one of thousands which took place around the world over the weekend. In cities and towns across the UK also there were over a hundred vigils and demonstrations. More than 300,000 attended a march in London.
