Looking ahead to Lent and Easter with Deacon Sean Loone

West Midlands Deacon Sean Loone, of Our Lady of the Wayside parish in Shirley, Solihull, has published a new book on Scripture. 'A Cup of Cold Water: Finding Christ in the Sunday Gospels of Lent and Easter' consists of a series of reflections taking the reader on a journey through Lent and Easter, Sunday by Sunday, with an accompanying Gospel passage and questions.

The book is suitable for individual or study group use.

All profits from the sale of the book will support children at Our Lady of the Wayside Catholic Primary School whose families are struggling financially.

And in celebration of his 20th anniversary to the Permanent Diaconate, Deacon Sean has dedicated the book to the people, parish and school of Our Lady of the Wayside.

This is Deacon Sean's sixth book to date where he has donated profits to charity. So far his book sales have raised £7,500 for Catholic charities.

Deacon Sean writes: "In the life of Jesus, we see God's response to suffering humanity, and our journey through Lent and Easter exposes the depth and nature of his outrageous and uncompromising love. Hence, I often make the point, that personal growth in faith, often comes in what appears to the world, as failure. In the same way, true self-knowledge, is born out of the mistakes that we make. Ultimately, God simply invites us to be good, and to live lives which reflect something of his goodness. We may stumble, and fall along the way, but we can be sure of one thing, that he will always be there with us."

Deacon Sean lectures part-time at St Mary's College, Oscott, and also works in several schools as Chaplain and RE advisor.
