When is it right to go to war?
Tuesday 13 February, 12.30pm - 2pm

Is Christianity always pacifist, or are there occasions when war can be acceptable? What does our tradition tell us? And when we find ourselves at war, what is it permissible for us to do in order to win? Join us as a Dominican friar guides us through a discussion on this tricky area.

Was Jesus' death a sacrifice?
Thursday 21 March, 12.30pm - 2pm

What do we mean when we speak of 'sacrifice'? And how did the people in Jesus' own times think about it? From Cain and Abel, through Abraham and the other leading figures of the Old Testament, we can see the importance of sacrifice. So how does Christ's own 'self-sacrifice' fit into that tradition, and what implications does this have? Join us as a Dominican friar guides us through a topic that prepares us for Holy Week and Easter.

Must a Christian favour democracy?
Tuesday 14 May, 12.30pm - 2pm

Democracy is a relatively new phenomenon, albeit one that claims to have ancient roots. What does the Church think about it as a form of governance? And what does it teach regarding other forms of government such as oligarchies, dictatorships or monarchies? How should Christians whether rulers or ruled participate in government? And what should we do when we find ourselves at odds with the powers-that-be? A Dominican friar will lead us through a discussion of great contemporary relevance in a year that will see multiple national elections.
