Yesterday at the Ashdod Port (about 40km south of Tel Aviv), Rabbis for Human Rights (RHR) partnered on a demonstration led by their friends at Zazim demanding that the Israeli Government allow humanitarian aid into Gaza.
The protest was met by violence from right-wing counter demonstrators.
RHR say: "The situation in Gaza is dire and it is a basic moral imperative to allow humanitarian aid to reach those who are suffering.
"We watch in anguish as famine and disease spread among the Gazan people, while much of Israeli society and the Government lack human compassion and believe that this is the price that Gaza must pay.
"This week saw a major jump in our food aid work, as a result of the success of our crowd-funding campaign, with over 1,000 donors; and the special partnership of organizations and activists which enables this project to happen. From Culture of Solidarity in Tel Aviv to the Jerusalem packing operation, to activists on the ground across the West Bank, to Palestinian volunteers in each community, and volunteer drivers, hundreds of people are vital to this work taking place.
"In Jerusalem over six tonnes of food aid was packed in two intensive packing days, with dozens of volunteers coming together with a shared vision. Today the amazing Jerusalem activists invited families to take part and kids drew Ramadan cards for the deliveries.
"We have almost reached our target to provide food aid to 750 Palestinian families this Ramadan, please help us to reach our target!
"This week marked the start of the month of Ramadan, this year overshadowed by tragedy and suffering.
"We wish our Muslim friends and partners across the region and around the World a Ramadan Kareem. We pray that the values of Ramadan, of personal introspection, of coming closer to God, and of charity and generosity, will bring clarity to all of our societies and an understanding of the inherent sanctity of all human life."
