USA: Clemency for Willie James Pye has been denied

Willie James Pye

Willie James Pye

Cathy Harmon-Christian, Executive Director, of Georgians for Alternatives to the Death Penalty (GFADP) writes:

A few moments ago I received a one word text:

Denied.

It is heartbreaking that the Georgia Board of Pardons and Paroles denied clemency for Willie James Pye, a man who is intellectually disabled and supposed to be protected from execution by US Supreme Court law. Willie is also a Black man whose defense attorney, Johnny Mostiler, was a racist who did not do his job to defend Willie.

Right justice and mercy have been left on the wayside as the state of Georgia plans to commit homicide in our name, taking the life of Mr Pye tomorrow night at 7pm.

Please join us tomorrow to stand in solidarity for Willie James Pye, his family and loved ones, as well as Alicia Lynn Yarbrough and her family at one of the following Vigils.
