Pope Francis receives Russian Orthodox Metropolitan Antonij

Russian Metropolitan Antonij of Volokolamsk, head of the Department for External Relations of the Patriarchate of Moscow, met Pope Francis in the Vatican yesterday, Thursday 11 July. This was the second in person meeting of Metropolitan Antonij with Pope Francis at the Vatican.
Metropolitan Antonij also visited on 5 August 2022. Later in September 2022, Pope Francis and Metropolitan Antonij both participated in the Seventh Congress of Leaders of World and Traditional Religions in Kazakhstan.
On 16 March this year, Pope Francis and the Russian Orthodox Patriarch Kirill of Moscow took part in a video conference in which the Pope invited all Christians and Christian pastors to work toward peace.
Pope Francis has made countless appeals for peace in the ongoing war in Ukraine.
