Pax Christi statement on fatal stabbings in Southport
Kathryn Lydon, new Chair of Pax Christi England & Wales, who also co-leads Pax Christ Merseyside has sent the following message in the wake of yesterday's horrific stabbing incident during a dance class in Southport, in which three children were killed and ten people have been injured. A suspect has been arrested.
'Members of Pax Christi England & Wales were deeply saddened to hear of the stabbings in Southport on Monday. Our sympathy and prayers go out to the families and friends of those children who lost their lives so tragically and to the children and adults who are seriously injured We cannot imagine the pain, shock and deep sense of loss they are experiencing. We grieve with them and with their community .
We encourage our members and supporters locally to show solidarity and support to the community in Southport and to join the local vigils being organised in the town or to go their local church for peace and prayer.
The background to the incident in Southport is still unknown but we long for answers and solutions to this loss of innocent life and our hope is once more 'Never again . As members of Pax Christi, the International Catholic Movement for Peace and Nonviolence we are committed to prayer and work for Nonviolence throughout the world and 'on our doorstep .' The horror of this stabbing in our own country is a sad reminder of the daily loss of innocent lives in conflicts throughout the world and a call to do all we can to work and live for peace in every community.'
