Edinburgh: Bishop Kenneth Nowakowski to give 2024 Romero Lecture on 'Romero and Ukraine'

  • Fr David Stewart SJ

Join us for a thought-provoking evening at Edinburgh's Jesuit Church of the Sacred Heart, where a relic of Saint Oscar Romero is held. Bishop Kenneth Nowakowski, bishop of the Ukrainian Catholic Eparchy of the Holy Family of London, will invite us to consider 'Romero and Ukraine: Resilience in the Face of Injustice'. It's on Friday October 18th at 7pm, in the Church's Lauriston Hall, EH3 9DJ.

Archbishop St Oscar Romero, the outspoken advocate for justice and non-violence in his native El Salvador, has long inspired Christians around the whole world. On March 24th, 1980, he was murdered - shot by an assassin while celebrating Mass, the day after he had appealed to the state's military to stop their brutal repression of the poor. Together, by celebrating his work, beliefs, and courage, we can keep his legacy alive.

This Romero Lecture is hosted by Edinburgh Jesuit Church in partnership with SCIAF (Caritas Scotland), Justice and Peace Scotland, Pax Christi, The Romero Trust, and Independent Catholic News. Staff members and supporters of our partners will be in attendance on the night.

All are welcome! A social gathering will follow, with refreshments. There is no cost for tickets, but all attendees must, please, book in advance, using the Eventbrite link.
