The Lord Mayor of Westminster, Cllr Robert Rigby, was at the Vitality Westminster Mile event at the weekend, starting a series of races.

Around 7,000 runners took part over the two days. The event began in 2013 as a legacy of the London Olympics, but is now a Westminster institution that Westminster City Council runs in partnership with London Marathon events.

Mayor Rigby - who is a seasoned runner himself - did one lap then stopped to talk with the many of the thousands who attended.

He said: "It was fantastic to see so many entrants at the Vitality Westminster Mile. It was a great occasion for everyone from seasoned runners to families and those who just fancy a jog in this iconic setting."
