Vicars for Religious meet at Hinsley Hall
Source: Vicars for Religious
Hinsley Hall in Leeds was the venue for the annual gathering this week of the 'Vicars for Religious' of England and Wales, those men and women whose role it is to represent and support the religious groups in their respective dioceses.
Twenty-two vicars were present, a mixture of Religious women, Religious men and diocesan priests. After sharing information about events and happenings in their dioceses, they listened to input from Sr Anne Morris DHS; firstly, information on the state of religious life in our two countries and secondly a more reflective period on our lives as Religious in today's world and what we still have to offer within our dioceses. Bishop Paul Mason spent time with the group and provided an update on safeguarding in this country - Bishop Paul being the Lead Bishop for Safeguarding in England and Wales.
Both of these speakers prompted much discussion among the group. Other topics for discussion included some thoughts on how Religious might celebrate the Jubilee Year within the Church in 2025. Plenty of valuable informal conversation took place over meals and between sessions. Members of the group value this in-person meeting as a way of supporting each other, learning from each other and exchanging advice about any issues that they face. Prayer together and celebration of the Eucharist are an important part of the meeting - enhanced by coming together in the welcoming environment of the Leeds Diocese Pastoral Centre.
Reflections from some of those present:
"A chance to meet and share our experiences and concerns."
"The importance of gathering together."
"A good opportunity to share good practice."
"Valuable sharing of information and ideas."

"Being together is important - inspiring and enthusiastic."
"Opportunity to keep up to date with the current situation of Religious & safeguarding in England and Wales."
"Good ongoing formation for Vicars."
