Hillary Awiti, MHM writes: The Mill Hill Missionaries held a landmark Society Assembly from September 30th to October 5th, 2024 in Maidenhead, Kent. This event was particularly significant as the last Society Assembly took place almost two decades ago, in 2005. The main focus of the agenda was to review the implementation of the recommendations from the 19th General Chapter in 2022. The Assembly, occurring halfway through the current General Council's term, played a crucial role in evaluating the Society's progress and exploring new perspectives for the future.

Although the Society Assembly does not have legislative power, its discussions shape recommendations that could influence the decisions of the General Council. The attendees included Society Leadership from various regions and areas, which led to a diverse and rich exchange of ideas. The Assembly lasted five days and addressed five key themes: Mission & Identity, Formation, Care of Members & Associates, Governance & Leadership, and Finance & Stewardship. Each theme was thoroughly examined, and the Assembly concluded with an open forum on the final afternoon, where participants engaged in candid and collaborative discussions.

The Assembly was characterized by fruitful, informative, and honest dialogue. Participants were encouraged to share proposals and ideas. While there were varying opinions, reaching a consensus was a priority. These discussions aimed to strengthen the Society's ongoing commitment to its mission and to ensure that the spirit of collaboration remained at the heart of its operations. The diverse contributions led to valuable recommendations, ensuring the Society remains responsive to the evolving needs of its mission work.

In his closing remarks, the General Superior, Very Rev Fr Michael Corcoran, expressed deep gratitude to the General Council, participants, moderators, secretaries, and logistics personnel. He also extended thanks to St Joseph's Parish Maidenhead for hosting the Assembly. Additionally, he reflected on the Society's past, present, and future, emphasizing the enduring nature of the Mill Hill Missionaries' charism as "pilgrims of hope" on a synodal journey of communion, mission, and participation. The Assembly ended on a hopeful note, celebrating the continuing vitality of the Society's mission captured in our motto - To Love and To Serve. Long live the Mill Hill Missionaries!
