DEC Emergency Middle East Appeal

Source: CAFOD

The Disasters Emergency Committee (DEC) Emergency Middle East Appeal has been launched today.

CAFOD is one of the member charities. Janet Symes CAFOD Head of Region Asia and the Middle East writes: "Our local experts are providing practical help right now to families in Lebanon and Gaza - and we need your help too.

"Despite the risks, our local aid workers are already in these areas, working tirelessly to provide water, food, shelter and other essential services to families impacted by the conflict.

"In Gaza, people are dying of hunger and disease, as well as injuries caused by the conflict. Food and clean water are desperately scarce. Ninety percent of the population are displaced, and more than 42,000 people have been killed. There is no safe place for people in Gaza to go.

"In Lebanon, almost 700,000 people have had to leave their homes in recent weeks due to the conflict. Shelters are overwhelmed, and hospitals are struggling to treat the thousands of people injured.

"Your donation will get to work straight away, supporting families who are deeply affected by this ongoing crisis. You will also support host families, who have welcomed those forced to flee the conflict, but who are now struggling with the basics themselves.

"Getting emergency help to families in need requires all of us - that's why we're partnering with the Disasters Emergency Committee (DEC) to make this appeal.

"If you've already donated to this emergency, thank you. Your support is reaching those who need it.

"I'm keeping all of you and particularly the families of the Middle East in my thoughts and prayers.

Thank you for your support."
