LGBT+ Catholics Westminster welcomes 2024 Synod Report
LGBT+ Catholics Westminster Pastoral Council have issued the following statement titled 'Harmony in Diversity,' in response to the final 2024 Synod Report.
While, yet again, the Catholic Church's Synod on Synodality has failed to use the LGBT+ acronym used by some Church members about themselves, the LGBT+ Catholics Westminster Pastoral Council welcomes the 2024 Synod Final Report. It clearly recognises that "Unfortunately, others continued to experience the pain of feeling excluded or judged because of their marital situation, identity or sexuality. The desire for more real and meaningful relationships is not only an authentic longing to belong to a close-knit group, but may also reflect a deep sense of faith."(Paragraph 50)
The Report emphasises the plurality of contexts (Paragraphs 18-20) in which the Church is called to respond to the diversity of needs among the people of God. A key principle of subsidiarity underpins much of what the Report proposes in developing the Church's pastoral ministries and inclusion of those who have been marginalised in Church and society. It also notes the authority of the local Church in developing present and future paths of pastoral and doctrinal reflection on so-called "controversial topics".
