Last call for names to be read at homeless commemoration service

Source: Housing Justice

A record number of names have already been submitted for the Service of Commemoration for those who have died homeless in the last year - 'Coming Home' which will take place in St Martin in the Fields, on Thursday, November 7th from 11am -1pm.

Once again this year the service will be livestreamed on the St Martin in the Fields Facebook site here - St Martin-in-the-Fields | London | Facebook - for anyone that cannot join us in person.

Mark Brennan from House Justice writes: "I regret to report that we have already had over 130 unique names submitted to be read out on the day, up from 87 last year. However, please heed this final call to continue to submit names so we can acknowledge all those whose lives have been curtailed prematurely with some dignity and respect and go some way to addressing the ignominy of dying homeless and anonymous for many of these people. The link is in this paragraph below:

"The first gesture of dignity in life is being given a name at birth and this is absent when people die homeless and in anonymity. This is why we read out the names at this annual commemoration. Please register the names of persons you wish to be read out during the service by clicking on this link… Coming Home - A service of commemoration at St Martin in the Fields 2024

"These should be people known to have died in the Greater London area only since 8th November 2023. Please share the names of those you would like to remember by noon on Monday 4th November."
