Ahead of the reopening of the Cathedral of Notre Dame in Paris, this Sunday, 8 December, Archbishop Laurent Ulrich, Archbishop of Paris takes us on a brief tour in this short film from Vatican News.

Archbishop Laurent says: "It's is an adventure of immense collaboration.

"I first invited everyone to anticipate, to hope for the good of what was to come, to place the entire people of God in expectation of something magnificent.

"This is something that no one expected, because it is clear that the Cathedral we will find will be quite different from the Cathedral we left behind on 14 April 2019.

"This is quite natural because it has been cleaned. I have often told people who said to me: 'give us back the cathedral as we know it.' I often responded: 'I will not do that. I cannot do that' because it has taken on colours that it did not have before. For many, the memory was of a rather black cathedral, black from the smoke of candles, from the numerous visits of tourists and the centuries quite simply.

"We are not proud of what has been done here. We are simply grateful."
