Booking: From Rome to Home: Next steps for synodality in our parishes

After the Synod for Synodality in Rome, what steps can we take to bring Synodality into our parishes?

The School for Synodality is hosting an interactive online event called 'From Rome to Home' on 25 January 2025, exploring all things relating to the 'synodal way', and will outline the resources and routes available, including the thorny issues and challenges along with the concrete practical steps, including:

What does synodality mean for my parish?
What do we do in response?
How can our parishes start to become more synodal?

Then attendees will hear the experiences of parishes who have already experimented with practices of listening and discernment in their daily church life, followed by a chance to share their own hopes and experiences in small groups using the Conversation in the Spirit methodology.

Bishop Nicholas Hudson, who was present at the Synod Assembly 2024, will have a conversation with Synod facilitator Avril Baigent about what they experienced in Rome, top level takeaways and what synodality might mean for our communities at the grassroots.

By the end of the event, the School for Synodality hopes attendees will have an idea about what first steps might look like in their parish community, and what resources are available.

Avril Baigent said in a recent interview about synodality: "We should not underestimate the challenges of such a level of culture change. We will need new skills, such discernment and facilitation. We will need a new mindset that envisages the Church as the pilgrim people of God, on the journey, not fixed in concrete. And we need an openness to the Holy Spirit, who loves to disturb and surprise us, but who will never leave us when we step out in faith."

The School for Synodality is a project to support the Catholic Church in England and Wales in the synodal transformation of our daily habits and practices. Through conversations, the development of resources and our formation programmes, we hope to enable an openness to the Holy Spirit in our Church to foster faith-filled communities, more engaged participation, and a new openness to mission.
