Why Catholic men in Guildford should join the Knights of St Columba - a New Year's resolution
Are you a Catholic man in Guildford or within a 10 mile radius, with time to spare and a desire to make it count? If so, the Guildford & District Knights of St Columba may be exactly what you're looking for.
For Richard Morris, a recent Guildford Knight, joining the Knights was an opportunity to engage in active local Catholicism without the high costs of traditional social clubs. While the Knights' commitment to prayer and fraternity is inspiring, Morris felt that their activities could benefit from greater dynamism and was delighted with the group's openness to new ideas. With the support of the Grand Knight and approval from the Bishop, along with the vital support of other Knights, he helped launch a public talks programme in October 2023, and the results have been transformative.
In just over a year, the Guildford Knights have hosted four compelling talks, drawing an average of 50 attendees per event. Topics have ranged from Monsignor Dr Michael Nazir-Ali's vision of 'Shapes of the Church to Come' to the life changing impact of faith on prisoners, shared by the Prison Advice & Care Trust. Other highlights include an intimate glimpse into Benedictine monastic life at St Augustine's Abbey, Chilworth and an exploration of the Franciscan Sisters' global faith mission at Ladywell near Godalming. More talks are coming soon, the next being the Story behind the Wintershall Story of Christ - an open air venue in Surrey famous for its biblical plays.
These events demonstrate the Knights' commitment to combining faith, action, and intellectual engagement, making them a vibrant hub for Catholic men seeking to deepen their faith while contributing meaningfully to their community. Other public activities are being planned by fellow Knights.
Joining the Guildford & District Knights of St Columba offers not just strong fellowship, but a chance to actively shape the future. Will you answer the call?
