Do you sing Latin hymns to Our Lady? Do you know what the words mean? Have you often fancied learning a bit of Latin (or revising what is long forgotten), but don't know where to start?
You are invited to Boarbank Hall in Cumbria for a weekend designed to enable you to learn all the Latin we need to sing three of our best loved Marian Antiphons. It is suitable for complete beginners, or for those with a little rusty Latin! We welcome Alison Samuels, a very experienced Latin teacher whose humorous and imaginative style is nothing short of inspirational. Her husband, Robert, a lecturer in Music at the Open University, will offer a talk on musical settings of the Antiphons, with musical illustrations and a chance to practise singing them ourselves.
There will also be time to walk, relax, pray Mass and sing Daily Office with the resident Community and enjoy the warm hospitality and good food of the Boarbank Guest House.
This weekend from 21st-23rd/24th March 2025, is a repeat of a very successful weekend we ran last October ( See: https://boarbankhall.org.uk/our-lady-in-latin-2024/ ).
We will also be running a follow up weekend, Magnificat! looking at the canticles from St Luke's birth narratives, from 24th-27th October.
