SVP appoints new CEO

The St Vincent de Paul Society (England & Wales) has announced the appointment of Kate Nightingale as its new Chief Executive officer (CEO) following a successful period as interim CEO. Kate brings a wealth of experience and dedication to the role, having worked with the SVP for over 13 years, 10 of those as Deputy CEO.

During her time with the charity, as well as serving as Deputy CEO, Kate has overseen the development of the SVP's 11 Community Support Centres located across England and Wales. The centres are in communities where need is greatest and offer support and services such as debt advice, warm spaces, free hot meals, food parcels, ESOL classes and counselling. Before joining the SVP, Kate had a diverse career in the private sector including in commercial and human resources roles.

Elaine Heyworth, National President of the SVP, said: "We are delighted to appoint Kate as our new CEO. Kate has a deep passion and understanding of the SVP's mission. Her knowledge and experience make her perfect for the role. Kate has already demonstrated her capacity for leadership as deputy and interim CEO. We believe her vision and leadership will help the SVP continue and grow its mission to seek and help those in need and to tackle the causes of poverty where we can."

Commenting on her appointment, Kate Nightingale said: "I am delighted to be given the opportunity to lead the SVP. It is a charity to which I have a very deep commitment and passion. It is a privilege to work alongside our incredible members, volunteers and dedicated staff every day.

Recently the demand on our services has risen dramatically as more people feel the effects of the rising cost of living. That brings into the sharp focus the importance of our work; to find and help those in need, to champion those suffering hardship and to highlight the causes as we find them and call for real solutions. It will be an honour for me to lead the SVP in this vital work."

The St Vincent de Paul Society is a front-line grass roots charity, dedicated to helping individuals and families facing poverty, homelessness and other hardship. It celebrated its 180th anniversary in England and Wales last year. Last year the number of requests for help received by the SVP increased by 143% and its 8000 strong membership made over 309,000 visits to those in need, including supporting families struggling to make ends meet, rough sleepers and isolated older people.
