Christian author helps small charities through innovative publishing initiative

Primavera Moretti

Christian fundraiser and author, Primavera Moretti has founded a new independent publishing company to help raise funds for charity. Each charity partner will be linked to a specific title and will receive £1 per copy sold.

Lumina Publications is a whole new concept in publishing. Although it's just starting out, Lumina Publications has a vision: to bring light to the world by creating educating and entertaining books and to support charities by donating £1 from every book sold.

Primavera Moretti, Lumina's founder, writing under the pen name Flora Dunn, explained "As a professional fundraiser, I've noticed that it's been getting harder and harder to raise funds, particularly for small charities. I wanted to find a way to turn the tables and be the philanthropist myself by creating an additional income source I could afford to give away. I wanted my creative work to count for something more than just entertainment and reflect my Christian faith and practice."

So far, Lumina Publications has supported the Daniel Spargo Mabbs Foundation, a drugs education charity by publishing Summer at Tillingford Hall by Flora Dunn, a light-hearted (closed door) romance set in an English country house which is a finalist in the Romantic Novelists Association awards.

Primavera continues, "This is not a cheap marketing ploy - Lumina Publications is not likely to be in profit for a while, which is why we decided to give £1 per copy, rather than a share of profits at this stage. This initiative is born of a genuine desire to raise money for charity and bring relevance to each novel. We want partners to feel some ownership of the books and so we're seeking partners who are relevant to each story - and in future would be keen to work with partners to create interesting new stories based on their work."

The DSM Foundation's founder and director Fiona Spargo-Mabbs adds: "This is a really creative approach to fundraising in challenging times, and we're very grateful to Primavera for choosing our charity to benefit from the first of her books."

"Being shortlisted in the RNA debut novel of the year awards category is a real boost to Lumina's charity campaign," adds Primavera.

The two books for which Lumina Publications is currently seeking partners are: A Little Treat on Honey Street (deadline: 15th May) and Christmas at Tillingford Hall (deadline: 15th September).
