Kenya: missionary dies in road accident

The Church in Kenya is mourning Br Anthony Koning CMM, a Brother of Our Lady Mother of Mercy, who died in a road accident last Thursday. Br Anthony who turned 66 on April 13, had been in Kenya for 40 years.

The burial is on Friday, at the Brothers' Mosocho community, Kisii Diocese, after a Requiem Mass at Cardinal Otunga High School. The CMM Superior General Brother Huitema CMM, who happened to be in Kenya when the tragedy happened, will attend.

"We are grateful for all the things Br Anthony has done for us," the Institute said in a statement, "We will remember him as a man who fulfilled his mission of mercy with continuous dedication." Br Anthony, who was Dutch, was the Kenya Regional and Provincial Superior for 25 years until 1996. He was the animator of the Oyugis Integrated Project when he died. Brother Anthony said recently: "Working with dying and marginalized people in such a direct relationship is a challenge . . . for which I am very grateful."
