Father Joseph Abella was appointed yesterday as the new superior general of the Claretian missionaries. His nomination was carried out in the ambit of the XXIII General Chapter of the Claretian missionaries, held in the Claretianum of Rome.
Fr Joseph, 53, was born in Lleida, Spain. He was sent to Japan as a young seminarian, where he lived the first step of his missionary service. His experience in the East gave him great capacity in dialogue, respect for the human and religious traditions, and research for common actions.
Appointed 12 years ago in the General Council of the Claretian Institute, he coordinated the Prefecture of Apostolate, dedicating energies to the constitution of the Secretariat of Peace and Justice and the Protection of the Created.
