Source: CISA

A religious sister has been shot and killed by thugs in Lodwar, 500 km north of Kenya's capital, Nairobi.

Sr Anna Nanjala, a missionary and member of the Ursuline Sisters congregation, was killed on Sunday night, March 16, in Lodwar Diocese.

The Ursuline Sisters in Nairobi told the Catholic Information Service of Africa (CISA) that gangsters, posing as people in need of assistance, knocked at the door of the sisters, convent house within Kanamkemer Parish. Sr Nanjala opened the door, only to be shot in the head.

No one else was injured during the 9:30 pm (18:30 GMT) incident.

There were five sisters in the house at the time. Police are holding a suspect in connection with the shooting. Meanwhile, the funeral has been arranged for Saturday, March 22, 2003, at Sirende in Kitale Diocese.
